Spring Detox day 7

4/23/2017

I can do this. Every spring when I do a cleanse it reminds me how often I grab for food. A leftover bite off a kid's plate. That last muffin. Noshing when not hungry. A glass of wine for no reason. All of that is extra calories and not fuel for my body. I must practice more mindful eating. Good reminder!

Breakfast

Picture
Another baked apple sprinkled with cinnamon. And a cup of green tea. I love Adagio's kukicha.

Mid morning snack

You guessed it, "the drink" and 2 supplements.

Lunch

Forgot to take a picture of a very boring salad tossed with oil and vinegar and raw carrots.

Afternoon snack

The Metagenics drink and a cup of green tea because I was cold.

Dinner

Picture
Grilled ahi tuna over mixed greens that I sautéed in coconut oil and a drizzle of Yuzu from Trader Joes. I think I ate it in about 27 seconds. Whoops, slow down.

Evening snack

Last evening for the Metagenics drink and supplements. Good night.

STAR BUCKS the chemical dealers

Who has someone in their life that thinks plant oils are voo doo, for hippies or don't work? And Did they happen to buy one of these horrific chemical crap storm diabetes drinks this week??

Sometimes I wonder if parents realize how much sugar is in stuff like this?  I don't care if you are an adult and choose to drink this beverage with full disclosure of its chemicals.  But I BEG parents to NOT give this to their kiddos.

Spring detox day 6

I have to say this limited food choice for days 5-7 certainly makes it easy. I didn't say fun, but easy. No more opening the fridge and pondering what to have. It's pretty straight forward!

Breakfast

Picture
one baked apple. This time I added cinnamon to it and a drop of water to let it stir into the wet moisture of the hot apple.

Mid morning snack

the usual Metagenics drink and 2 supplements.

Lunch

Picture
I was out and about and needed to eat. So grabbed some rice-less sushi from whole foods. After I ate the fairly flavorless sushi (minus the packaged sauce) I realized it was wrapped in rice paper. Not supposed to have rice in this phase of it. Oops.

Afternoon snack

My friend the Metagenics drink and 2 supplements
Picture

Dinner

Picture
Its becoming a pattern here. Grilled salmon with sautéed greens and a squirt of lemon, dash of salt and fizzle of Yuzu. Boring but who cares when ur hungry and it isn't a liquid drink!

Evening Snack

Oh goodie, more drink and 2 supplements. Good night.

Day 5 spring detox

ok this morning was fine except I should not have stepped on the scale. I was curious! I do not do this yearly cleanse for weight loss but strangely as the number drops I still experience euphoria. Let's just say it had not dropped.

breakfast

Picture
One cored and baked apple and a cup of tea. Despite not being in the mood for sweet, the warm apple was scrumptious. I should do this more often.

Mid morning snack

Picture
a handful of spinach, 1/4 apple, the Metagenics powder, ice and water. And the required 2 supplements.

Lunch

Picture
took my kids to their favorite Japanese place for lunch. That was hard not getting my usual rice wrapped rolls. But sashimi is good any day of the week!

Mid afternoon snack

Time for another juice and supplement. This time I just mixed with 8 oz of water. I wasn't hungry so it was just thirst quenching.

Dinner

Picture
I LOVE me some Trader Joes! We stopped on the way home and grabbed some wild salmon, a bag of mixed greens, lemons and this to die for Yuzu sauce. Fired up the grill and sautéed the greens in a pat of coconut oil and 10 minutes later my meal was done. Salt and lemon fix it all. I'm actually so full I can't finish my fish.

Spring Cleanse day 4

4/20/2017

Starting another day off NOT wanting fruit in the AM. I don't want sweets...I want FOOD. So I ate leftover lentils. Then I realized there is probably something to the recommendation of having the fruit sugar give you a lift. I was dragging. I needed that fructose energy. But...the day must go on and I have to get to work today.

Breakfast

Picture

mid morning snack

Glugged down the 8 oz of drink and 2 supplements. Back to work. Did I mention I'm hungry?

Lunch

sadly, as often happens on days I work, I did not have time to eat. You would think not a big deal when you are in a limited calorie cleanse...but...I need to feed my cells some nutrients. I do drink an insane amount of water and green tea so I stay hydrated.

Midafternoon snack

Picture
Oh goodie, another supplement and berry drink. At least it is tasty!

Dinner

Picture
I was so hungry for fish-the only protein I'm allowed now in this phase aside from lentils. I went to Whole Foods to grab some to grill and happened to notice they had plain white fish with lemon as an item on the ready-to-eat hot bar. Ooh, I'm in! To not have to wait any longer to eat I will just load up my container with raw cucumber and cooked carrots and snap peas. I layered raw beets and raw zoodles on the bottom and put 2 roasted sweet potatoes in there after I scraped off the onions and peppers clinging to them. I grabbed 2 days worth so I can eat tomorrow too. As I got home and dug in I realized fish is clearly NOT something to get from a hot bar self serve station. Dry, flavorless and clearly sitting there for awhile. Ok Heidi, lesson learned. Be prepared. Don't wait till the last minute for food. At least the veggies hit the spot. Went to bed hangry. I just read that days 5-7 are the hardest in this cleanse. Great.
This WILL be worth it, I know it!  If you want to get started on your own liver and digestive cleanse then grab it at 10% off with this link through my chiro office:

Spring Cleanse day 3-detox and elimination

4/19/2017

Day 3 of my annual spring digestive and liver cleanse. Sounds fun, right? Well this time of year is actually the perfect time to detox your body as your liver is super receptive as the bulbs are blooming and the Earth is coming alive again.
I made a little salsa topping for my food and only had one lime. I added a few drops of my Young Living lime vitality oil and it definitely deepened the flavor of an otherwise somewhat flavorless meal. Don't forget about your oils to safely deepen the flavor of food!

Breakfast

Picture
1/2 papaya and 1/4 fresh pineapple eaten slowly and Thoughtfully. The only downside was I didn't want anything sweet this morning yet had to eat this. I would've preferred a steaming bowl of soup and fresh crunchy bread.

Snack-Metagenics powder with water and 2 supplements

Picture

Lunch

Lunch- One baked purple sweet potato topped with my salsa
Salsa: One red and one orange bell pepper chopped, one handful of cilantro chopped, Grapeseed oil and lime, sprinkle of salt. This is a FODMAP friendly salsa. Clean eating at its finest!
Picture

Snack

I needed crunch...big time...so I had a handful of fresh baby carrots then drank the Metagencis drink and 2 supplements.

Dinner

Black lentils cooked in veggie broth and frozen butternut squash tossed in at the end. I added garam masala spice by Frontier for flavor. A big ol scoop over arugula with grapeseed oil and red wine vinegar. At least it was warm and hit the spot!

Day 2 Spring Detox

Picture
Breakfast consisted of one fresh mango with cinnamon on top. Yummy and filling enough for now.

mid day snack of the shake and supplements.

Lunch of a garden salad with grilled chicken. I have been a vegetarian for years and only recently been adding in chicken when I'm starving. I put myself in the hangry category today.

Another shake in the late afternoon with some organic coconut pieces and blueberries plus the required supplements.

Dinner...well...it was a late night at work so I actually just ate the rest of my salad from lunch. All in all, a fine day!

Spring Cleanse time!

Every spring I do a cleanse. Spring time is the best time to let the liver release toxins and reset your body. Kind of like closing all the browsers on your computer and restarting. Everything just works better and faster then.

This time I am doing a 10 day cleanse by Metagenics. We sell This highly respected brand of supplements in my office. I have heard the cleanse is tasty and not harsh on your body because you still get to eat. While a fasting cleanse does reset you the hangry bitchy attitude in the process doesn't sound appealing!

So follow along my journey of what I eat these 10 days. If you want to buy your own Metagenics cleanse you can purchase through my office at this link.

Easter time-wellness style

Who is looking for healthier ideas for Easter Baskets? We don't do alot of candy for our kids at my house. They get some but it is mostly about finding their hidden eggs both hard boiled AND the plastic ones. We fill them with money, chocolate chips, popcorn, vitamins, pirate booty, crackers, M&M's, nuts and cereal. Honey sticks or seeds for the garden are great too! Mine are also getting egg shaped bath bombs I made.

My kids don't complain cause that is all they have ever known. They of course love when they find the candy ones but money is right up there sparking pure joy.
I find it crazy the amount of candy in the grocery store aisles this time of year. Why do we pump our bodies full of sugar, fake colors and rabbit shaped chemical storms?

Easter is about family time, religious time and the thrill of the egg hunt. There are many religious events around Easter you can focus on too. We have an interfaith household so our focus is on family time as we split between Easter and Passover. Let's share ideas with each other for Easter basket ideas or how to move to a less candy-filled household without tantrums! What do YOU like to do?

Huck-A-buck bread with honey butter is ecstasy!

I attended parent and child programs at my children's Waldorf school for all 3 kids. One of the highlights was the process of kneading the bread dough, smelling it bake while we played then consuming that delicious creation all together as a group. It will be forever stamped on my heart. The smell, the taste and the bond that created with my child and our community. Every time my kids are sick they ask for me to make this for them. I think it reminds them of simpler times too.
