want to talk about chia. The trendy superfood. We all remember the "cha cha cha chia" song from the chia pet commercial a number of years back. What is it though? Chia seeds are tiny black seeds from a plant that belongs in the mint family. They are usually non GMO and naturally free of gluten! They swell up and turn gelatinous in liquid so are perfect for stabilizers or thickeners. The cool thing is they are packed with protein, heathy fats, fiber and help you feel fuller longer. They expand in your tummy so you eat less. They are 40% fiber! For some people chia makes them poop alot. Others see no change. They can be used as an omega 3 source but they do not supply the best form of omegas so don't exclusively rely upon them for that. I toss them into smoothies, on my yogurt, in my overnight oats and have made a vegan egg replacement for baking recipes. Who else loves cha, cha, cha chia??
