Years ago we went to this sweet program and it influenced the way we chose to parent our kids. It was gentle and kind, simple and calming. Each week I felt so peaceful within seconds of walking in the room.
I was a mom looking for a nurturing program to do with my baby. Little did I know I would meet lifelong friends and our family would gain a community. All of our kids have benefited from a Waldorf early education program and I’m proud to say I’ve benefited too! Parents of young kids...check this parent and child program out and ask me any questions you might have! https://campscui.active.com/orgs/WaldorfSchoolatMoraineFarm?season=2663711

Vacation has been nice but it’s time to go home. I’ve got to get back to work helping all the babies! I always thought that it would be neat to have a chiropractic office outside where people can roam around and feel the more connected to the earth as their head is literally put on straight. An ocean view would be prefect! I joked to every one of my patients before I left that if they needed me come find me in SD. I’m obsessed with the silence and serenity here. Hopefully I’ll be able to maintain a deep level of peace and calmness as I head back to the hustle and bustle of Boston.
If you ever make your way to Deadwood, SD then you MUST go to @mindblownstudio and blow glass with Toni. She is so patient with kids and helps them craft beautiful glass pieces. This is a highlight of our summer! Check out my stories for more on this experience.
Reflecting on my week at a leadership retreat. What makes a leader? What makes a GOOD leader?
. I like to think it’s someone who pours into those around her, is supportive and understanding yet firm in her communication. . Someone who is respected but also down to earth. Who knows her stuff but isn’t arrogant or condescending. . Who is solid in her confidence but not so intimidating you are afraid to approach her. . A good leader sees and hears your concerns, helps you address them and teaches you how to solve your own problems so then you can then help others. . Have I reached that level? Well, I’m coachable and teachable and love to learn new things so I like to think I’m not only a student of life but also a leader walking beside you. Doing it scared. Facing a fear of being out of control in the water. I love nature and being outdoors appreciating the view. But to be in an inflatable raft sloshing about thrown this way and that makes my heart skip a beat. I did it anyway. And you know what?? It was FUN and EASY. Crossing white water rafting off my list✅
And PS...Spokane river is gorgeous! When was the last time you spent quality time with yourself? To sit with your thoughts and dreams? In my humble opinion too many of us live the rush-rush lifestyle and get zero time to connect and reflect. It’s super easy to observe that happening to OTHERS and avoid addressing in our own hectic life. ⠀⠀
I had a mindset shift happen this week. I faced my excuses. I’m busy a lot. Running from work to one committee or another to meetings, squeezing in a wimpy dinner as I drive down the road. I tell myself I have no time for Important self care cause of what I’ve committed to doing. Excuses. I have overextended myself and the number of hours that I have in my day leaving not enough for me and my family. Excuses. There’s time when you MAKE time Heidi. ⠀⠀ I’ve come to the sad realization that it’s easier for me to say YES to helping others than say YES to me. I think a lot of us do that. I don’t want to disappoint anyone. But in the process I disappoint myself. And my kids. And my hubby. They get the shell of me and not the core. ⠀⠀ Not any more. I’m going to learn boundaries. I have to for my potential to shine. Plus there is nothing more important than the health and well being of my family. ⠀⠀ The time I had alone this week has helped me realize I can absolutely help others as I love to do BUT I have to say NO more often and be okay with that. ⠀⠀ I say all this in the hopes that any of you that feel “too busy” also work to create boundaries and we help hold each other accountable. Sound good? If roses tried to be sunflowers, they would lose their beauty; and if sunflowers tried to be roses, they would lose their strength.-
Matshona Dhliwayo we stumbled on this beautiful field just west of Ft. Pierre, SD. One field was perfect and just waiting for us to witness its glory. I drive by this same field 2 days ago and it wasn’t like this. What a difference just 2 more days can make!! |
